This is a snippet of my novel: Midpoint.   It is currently in final editing, I hope, and will go back to the publisher the end of this month.   "The Canal Authority of Panama just announced that, last night at midnight, they shut down all power for the locks and are redirecting it for public needs, effectively closing the canal to traffic," the announcer said. "The mechanical donks that guided large ships into and out of the locks were moved to higher levels earlier, as the lower levels of the system are covered by the rising sea backing up into the canal.
